Even us were shocked by the results. We were surprised to see that teens are fairly frugal when it came to shopping habits. They spend more money on clothes that any other group except books. They spend more on technology than any other age group.

Teens also tend to be big spenders of money on mobile phones, computers and tablets. Kids aged 13-17 spent almost $2 billion last year alone on these devices.

What is striking about this is that they don't spend much on apps, even though they may be spending a lot of money on electronics. Less than 1% of smartphone usage by teens is devoted to apps.
